i watched luc besson's subway again a couple of weeks ago - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFViJxs8l24 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WTF42N8dAw - and had Steinberger bass BAS(s).

As a solution to this GAS I won this auction on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150216273358

She arrived today - a little bit beat up, but solid as a rock, as promised by the seller. Can't wait to plug her in! Hohner build quality feels good, and theres no buzz anywhere on the neck at all. It sh!ts over my old Satilliite P-Bass copy already.

Concerned about the washer in the bridge, and the missing knob could be a pain in the arse to replace with an identical part... nevertheless, i'm pleased, and i think i paid a pretty fair price.

Aleady thinking about new pickups - perhaps DiMarzio X2N, since there aren't many bass pickups in humbucker size.

Change your last name to Steinberger and get it over with!

it sounds great, and shes a joy to play. i like the string spacing on it, don't think i'll change the pickups... sounds rich, fruity and defined enough for this guitarist. serial number reveals its from 1987 i think.

the active electronics seem to be a bit of a waste of time. on this version its just a line buffer with some preset gain. definately going for some sort of rewiring. i dont know what yet - would be nice to have active EQ maybe. the 1980s red LED looks cool and should be used i think.

one of the original saddles has been replaced with a thinner one - hence the washer. its an ugly solution, but works ok.

i'm happy.

£111 for a bass with no buzz!

That's bloody cheap!

Though even the expencive basses i pick up in sound control have buzz...

The looks don't do it for me but i'd have one as a studio bass as they do have a nice sound and play real well.
