EQ pedal

Thanks for the tips guys! :D
I already have JJ's in my EVJ. Can't get much better than those.
I think I'll take a look at the Danelectro and MXR EQ's.
Also, if I am looking to brighten up the EVJ, can anyone suggest the best mod? There are a million out there. Or maybe even some simple changes I can make to brighten it up.
Thanks!

EQ pedals can be useful in certain circumstances (e.g. as a solo boost), but if you don't like the basic sound of your guitar straight into your amp (and feel that it is the amp, rather than the guitar which is to blame) then it would be far better to do something with your amp (modify it or just get a different one entirely) than trying to cover up poor tone with electronic stuff.

This is such a common mistake - people have a sound in their head that they want but when the set-up they have fails to deliver it, they try to improve things by further degrading the purity of tone with gizmos, rather than looking at the two most important, basic elements (guitar + amp).

Bad tone + unnecessary pedal = worse tone

Have you considered that your speakers might be too 'dark'?
When was yur amp last serviced? If it's years then the caps, etc might need changing
Or maybe you just have the wrong amp for your needs.

Well, I am just talking about an EVJ stack here.
I don't really expect anything out of it. For what I paid for it I consider it a great deal and that is basically it.
I have owned a ton of amps and pedals in the last 10 years. Before I moved to Germany, I had the best setup I ever had and was extremely happy with my tone. Unfortunately, I had to sell it to fund the family move. :(
At the moment I don't really have the time for anything other than jamming around in my apartment. That means that I am not looking to sink a ton of money into anything guitar related to achieve my tone.
The meager setup I have right now I actually really enjoy and I plan to keep it that way as I have to fund a move back to the States next year. :?
The only thing I really want is to brighten up the EVJ. I figured a cheap EQ would be the best bet, or modding the amp to some degree. The speaker is fine, not really worried about that.
I have never ventured into amp mods so am kind of lost there but as simple as the EVJ is, it can't be that hard.
I just don't really know where to start with the EVJ mods. :?:

Well if you are looking for an EQ, watch ebay for MXR 31 band rackmounted ones. I think I paid about £40-45 inc postage. HTH says they are meant to be rather good I believe, and the changes it makes are very substantial as far as I can see

Let me know if you bid on one from the UK,  I am looking for another on the cheap so I don't fiddle with the sliders every time I want a change
