New to BKPS, need advice
« on: March 28, 2008, 07:11:09 PM »
Hello all,

I have decided I want some top quality pickups for a my customs 7 string I have on order, and BKPs are supposed to be some of the best. I'll give a brief (hopefully) rundown of what my deal is.

the guitar is going to be a 27" scale 7 string with an ebony board, maple/purpleheart neck, and a korina body. I mostly play through a 6505+ and a mesa recto 412 (unsure of the speakers in it.) I also have a Pod XT.

My problem is that I have no clue what pickups to get. I like a really harmonially active, brighter bridge pickup (ex: Evolution, JB etc.) and I want something that can be smooth and jazzy in the neck witht he tone rolled back but capable of some really nice lead neck sounds (PAF Pro, Jazz, etc)

A matched set would be a plus as I am in the states and we are currently being bent over on exchange rates, so every srap helps. However if that really isn't possible in a matched set, I shall make due.

Thanks!

MDV

I play mostly metal, but I like to turn the gain down as well. More concerned with good rhythm tones in the bridge than any thing else. I already gave a description of what I want in the neck. I hope i don't have to say I want things like articulation, as that tends to be implied with higher end pickups.

So far I really like what I have heard of the Miracle Man in the bridge, the neck could pass if needed. The Cold Sweat has a good neck sound, but i havent found a bridge sound I have liked. The Painkiller has a really nice bridge sound. And the Holy Divers I like both sounds so far. Yay for search feature and clips posted every where! Its really awesome!

I'd say Miracle Man bridge and Cold Sweat neck aswell. The neck model of the cold sweat has an amazing fluid sound.

(All BKP pickups are either bridge or neck, and the properties of say, the neck warpig and the bridge warpig are VERY different, don't make the mistake that any pickup can be put anywhere)
My last FM.
ESP Horizon NTII.
ESP Viper Camo.
ENGL Screamer.

I know they come in seperate configurations. They are just voiced to compliment each other, like most pickup pairs. (though I am skeptical of how most pull it off.)

So far I really like the sounds of both of those pickups. Haven't found much in split modes, but I don't use those as often. Thanks a lot for the help.
