Bareknuckle pickups to suit a Framus Cobra?
« on: March 19, 2008, 01:26:33 AM »
Hi guys,

Im playing a Schecter Hellraiser 7 string through a Framus Cobra and Im changing the EMG 707's out of the Schecter for some passive Bareknuckles, Im just wondering what the best match would be for my setup. I was thinking of the miracle man as the Schecter is all mahogany, but I read here that it has a prominent mid range growl - the Cobra also has a prominent mid range growl that I dont necessarily want to accentuate any more so I want something that is a bit smoother in the low mids. Any suggestions?

both the holy diver and the miracle man worked great with the cobra
the miracle man sounds darker, tighter, hotter and more dense and focused
the holy diver sounds fuller, more open and smoother, much more versatile
the painkiller-7 worked really good too
a bit like the miracle man, but rawer, less bassy and a lot more middy
so if you want it to sound dark and heavy, but smooth, go alnico
the cobra is already dry and tight, so it will never get flubby or loose in any way
if you want it to sound a bit smoother, you can check my cobra->dragon mod thread on harmony central
pretty easy mod
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Hey mate,

I've got a Cobra as well, and my main guitar has a ceramic Nailbomb bridge/alnico V Nailbomb neck combination, which I think works really nicely. That said, I love mids - I run them high on the amp, and use a tubescreamer in front.
If you want to keep your mids smoother, you should probably look at the Miracle Man or Cold Sweat sets.

At the end of the day, the person you really ought to ask is Tim himself. He knows his pickups better than anyone else, and always makes great recommendations.

Some of the later videos on my Youtube page are done with the Cobra, if you're interested, there's a link in my sig.
