Is that one switch per coil?
Perhaps a rotary?
A blade?
A custom-wired 5 point blade?

Unless you specify, as said previously, I don't see how you can be helped.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

I took it to mean "not have a pickup selector" (i.e. all 3 permenantly on), in which case my answer is "No, it will sound like sh!t"

Unless he means "coil splitting on positions 2 & 4 of a 5-way switch", in which case my answer is "It's a matter of personal choice, I'd only use those two positions rarely for clean sounds so it wouldn't make any difference to the guitar's main sounds"

I guess you're trying to decide between:

#1: Bridge hum
#2: Bridge hum + middle single in parallel
#3: Middle single
#4: Neck hum + middle single in parallel
#5: Neck hum

or:

#1: Bridge hum
#2: Bridge split + middle single in parallel (hum cancelling)
#3: Middle single
#4: Neck split + middle single in parallel (hum cancelling)
#5: Neck hum

Well a coil split humbucker will sound a LOT different to the full humbucker (otherwise what would be the point of it? :)), but having the splitting option won't detract from the sound when you don't use it (in other words, pos #1 & 5 will sound the same whichever option you choose).

Yeah, not much in it for me - positions 2 & 4 are just a bit of extra variety for clean sounds but neither is particularly useful under high gain.

I'd probably have splitting of the neck for pos 4 but not for the bridge in pos 2, but I don't feel strongly either way...
