Weird one here, tech-knowing dudes...
« on: March 26, 2008, 08:43:45 AM »
There have been a couple of wee little problems in my last two practises... since I got the Teese RMC2.

Permit me to explain: the volume is dropping, so when I'm on my dirtay channel it effectively goes to the clean with the drop in volume.

First time it happened, I literally shat myself thinking it was the amp again but everything seemed fine. I plugged straight into the amp and it worked fine so that meant the problem was somewhere on/to/from my board. As I was investigating, I touched the switch of my wah with my finger and BAM, it all came back to life - didn't depress the switch, just touched it.

Then it did it again the week later, this time - mid-song - Pete just leant down, touched the switch and it all worked again.

I emailed Teese but no reply. Any ideas what it could be?! PSU problem? Build up of static? Problem with the actual power in the building? Grounding problem?

I'm sure you can appreciate my concern... what if it happens mid-gig?!

If it's one of those clunky toggle switches, like this:

Then sometimes the switch can break, and be ultra-sensitive, so it could be changed by just touching it lightly. Best see what the company say though :)

It is a switch like that, it's a standard true-bypass wah switch... but I don't mean that the effect is engaged, the wah is still off.

I contacted Diago (seeing as I use their power supply) and they seem to think it could be a grounding issue.

Worst thing is that it doesn't happen all the time, last night for example - it did it once at the start of practise but then didn't do it again in the remaining two and a half hours. But, the week before that, it did it at the start of practise... then again in the middle a couple of times... then again at the end.

:(

I'd say it could be 1 of a few things:

The grounding of the switch is slightly 'off', so when you touch the switch it's somehow fixing it in the short term.

The switch itself could be broken altogether (it sometimes happens).

It could be a loose wire going to the switch.

If you've spoken to James @ Diago, and he says it's a grounding issue, he's probably right. I've spoken to him myself a few times in the past when I was having issues with noise on my pedalboard, and he was very helpful and even provided me with a new version of his power supply that cured the grounding noise I was getting :)

THe worst thing is, Teese are temporarily uncontactable - they're moving offices and not due back until the start of April. Thing is, I have a gig on the 18th April and if this isn't 100% sure to be fixed or resolved, I have to take my wah back off my board and put the Crybaby From Hell back on! Major pain in the anus.

Does it do it if you run it off of battery power?  If not then it must be the grounding on the power supply, if it does it is the wah itself.

Yeah, I need to try it off batteries but I'm worried - as already mentioned - it might not do it and then BAM happen at a gig.
