Question about covers, (put and take off ?? )
« on: April 09, 2008, 08:36:07 AM »
Hi Guys,

I've got another stupid question about the covers.

Just wondering if the covers are... in some way... "attached/joined" to the coils.. or are the conver independent ??

I mean, can I buy a pickup with covers, put them in the guitar, and if I dont like how it looks with the cover, simply take the cover out and let the coils seen ? or I must choose the final way on the beggining ?

Once again, thanks... (I will finally make the order after I clear this :P )

Ben

the metal covers are soldered in place and most of the pickups are potted in wax so if you want to remove them you are best sending them back to tim for him to do it.

the single coils have plastic covers that slide on and off

you can buy some plastic covers for humbuckers that can be swapped around a bit easier

If you buy uncovered pickups though, and they're potted, can't you just stick a cover on later? Do you really have to repot them inside the cover?

if you are putting a metal cover on then yes, it needs potting again
