OK, as Chris Tarrant might say on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, please rank the following bridge pickups in terms of brightness and/or tightness:

A Riff Raff
B VHII
C Alnico IV Mule
D Alnico V Mule

More of a general question than choosing a pickup for any particular guitar, although I'm probably thinking mahogany as usual - SG or V. And any other comments abnout the essential differences between these models would be welcome. :)

well i know sometimes that stronger treble response can lead to a stronger bass response. i wonder if a similar list for these four pickups would be possible for strength of the bass frequencies?

You've actually highlighted exactly what I was wondering about the VHII. I've often seen it described as bright, but also that it has a fair bit of bass response - would it work in an SG (or similar), or might the bass strings sound a bit boomy?

indeed - it seems like we're wondering exactly the same thing, since i might like to try VH2s in a V.

I have been wondering the same thing about VHII
So where does the big bass, trebley output etc leave the mids? PAF ish?

The VHII does not have a 'big bass' response. The bass frequencies are very tight and in control.

IDEA! maybe i should put VH2s in the feline, and the cold sweats in a another guitar. but that would mean buying another guitar, for example an all maple neck through headless. mmm

I have a couple of SGs and I'm going for Riff Raff/SM in one, but I want something different in the other. I was considering the WP/MQ combo, but on reflection I suspect that might be a bit "too much" for me - I even find the Crawlers a bit hefty. Which got me thinking about VHIIs.

Oh no - after you Philly ;)

People trying Feline's VH2 loaded V have liked it alot, as Jonothan does himself. The thing is I know his particular amp/cab has an (unusually?) tight bass response... at least compared to my rig.
