For a cheap amp I'd recommend an Orange TT or even the Matamp Little Rock.

These are both less than £300 RRP and will sound great at practice volumes whilst still being able to handle a small to medium sized gig.

I'd opt for the TT if you want the sound of a modded Marshall as it is kind of in that ballpark at crunch to medium distortion.

Do NOT be set on a brand; Look for a sound, as the shop manager said to me. Then again: he was synaesthetic...

I read in an interview that Gary Moore recorded a lot of the recent "As Close As It Gets" album using an Orange 'Tiny Terror'.  Did Twinfan recently say that the Matamp 'Little Rock' had been discontinued ? I know he has owned both at some time or another.

The Tiny Terror sounds really good on this video, then again hes an awesome player so he can probably make anything sound good - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=P-PHqs4zBAc

Yep, I've had both.  Just have the Little Rock now.

I wouldn't say a TT or LR + cab was a cheap option.  The gentleman asked for cheap, so that's what I suggested  :)

Good point  :)

We do tend to vent our own 'secret desires' for new and expensive gear when asked to recomend something sensible.
