I still do all his other work for him and can garantee it wont be long before the laklands he is getting come in for some mods.

When you do work on his bass, hide a dead fish under the scratchplate.

Childish and unprofessional, I know.  But think of the satisfaction!!!

Mark.

As there are two builders on thread, how do you guys feel about the high degree of "Ghostbuilding" for endorsements that apparently goes on? Trying to have ones cake and eat it too?

That is a really good point.
I know of many top players whose endorsement axes are not made by the companies they endorse.

I remember an interview with Gary Moore, years ago, where he was talking about Hamer paying him loads of money, even though he never played them, in the studio or live...  Maybe in a vid in his rock days?

A 'famous' ghost builder is Randy Parsons, http://www.parsonsguitars.com/

You'll probably know him by Jack White's Copper Top Triple Jet.

I was thinking about this the other day.  Aparently Gordon Giltrap is doing something along these lines.  As far as I've heard each luthier gets to put a single guitar in the show.  It's called The Hub - I think there's something about it on his myspace page (can't get on it myself).  One of my buddies has a resonator in it, he's just working out what to build.
I think it's going to be in Sleford.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

I think that you're remembering this, which I think is more of a series of temporary exhibitions of all sorts of different crafts.  I also remember there being a guitar exhibition sometime, but don't know whether it's just a "look at these" type of show, or a real "pick it up and play it" facility.

That seems like it could be the place. Dunno much about it, only a brief conversation.  As far as I know, it's a behind the glass job, but I could well be mistaken.
