HSS clean shootout: Sultans/Nailbomb & Irish Tour/Holy D
« on: July 05, 2008, 03:30:34 PM »
After trading the MM out of my Warmoth alder strat for Monkey's NB (Thanks BTW :)) I've been playing that guitar a lot, so I decided to record a quick clip to show how the NB balances with the Sultans mid/neck.  Also, there are hardly any Sultans' clips & I seem to be one of the few people on the forum that has any of these excellent pickups.

Basically, I played a couple of chords on the clean channel with each selector position starting at #5 (neck) then ended back on the neck with a couple of chords on the crunch channel.

Guitars:
Warmoth alder strat - Sultans middle/neck & Nailbomb bridge
Warmoth korina strat - Irish Tour middle/neck & Holy Diver bridge
Amp: Engl Savage 120, Mesa Recto 2x12" (Vintage 30s)
FX: MXR M134 Chorus, TC Electronic G-Major reverb/delay
Mic/Recording: Shure SM-57, Presonus Bluetube DP, Fostex MR16HD

NB: For position #2 on both guitars the bridge is NOT split, so it's Bridge hum + Middle single.  Also, the middle singles on both guitars are RW/RP.

Enjoy :)
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

Also, just for a laugh I played the same thing with my Charvel 550XL that has a Trilogy neck & HD bridge .  Of course, this is a shorter clip because there are only 2 pickups/3 selector positions & I really didn't want to tune it from Eb to E, so it's not a strictly ideal conmparison... :)

I always like your clips, Antag. I think you've just given me a taste for clean single coils. It does require effects to fill up the sound and I'm not a big fan of that, but it really sounded good. I prefer the thicker sounding Trilogy Suite out of the bunch, but the neck+middle had a really sweet sound on the Sultans.

(Trilogy Suite leads please?)

Man , I love it when  someone does a clip with each position playing same riff.  That was amazing, and will be  in my top 5 alltime  BK clips.  I am planning on having a VhII / apache/apache strat, and was a littl worried of output difference, but, if a sultan can hang with a Nailbomb like this......  I would like to hear a dirty clip done this same way, but I'm getting greedy.  8) keep up the good work.
