So, we got a Vernier turntable into my shop for evaluation. It's a very funky turntable using some radical technology. My bench tech finished setup on it 10 minutes ago and asked me to have a listen and render judgment on his setup ...
I played Descending from the Amorica LP, one of my reference tracks.
System, top to bottom:
Graham Nightingale cartride
Graham Phantom tonearm
Vernier turntable
Tom Evans Groove Plus SRX phono stage
VTL TL-6.5 preamplifier
VTL MB-450 mono block power amplifiers
Rockport Mira loudspeakers
Cables are all Nordost Valhalla
Very neutral turntable compared to the Brinkmann Balance which was in the room prior. Transient attack is lightning quick. Great imaging and sound staging. I would love to hear this setup with the Burmester preamp and amp we have in the room, as well as a better cartridge.
Overall, if you have $100k USD and are looking for a great LP playback system, this is one of the best!
