LSR roller nut questions
« on: August 05, 2008, 01:33:05 PM »
Hey guys, I've been wondering about putting an LSR roller nut on my Fender Strat. I'd like to have increased tuning stability, but how does the nut work when fitting heavier gauge strings?

Will it accomodate any gauge string? Or only up to a certain point?

How easy is the nut to install?

I believe it only works with string gauges in the .008 to .056 range, so if you're into that "br0000talz" stuff you may struggle.

It's fairly simple to fit I think, but you need to make the nut slot a little wider - towards the fretboard, not towards the headstock.  Probably a pro job unless you have the tools.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Sounds cool with me. The heaviest I'd go with my Strat is 11 - 52. I don't play 'brootl' stuff on the strat, I leave that to the 7 strings.

I could probably do the nut myself.

Thanks for the info

I have one on a Strat plus deluxe and they work very well, but so does a much simpler solution like the graphite nuts on PRS. IMO a bit of an overkill.

I like the LSR nut - works well
But worth knowing that we do an Earvana nut that drops into the same slot and is made from stuff like the graphtech tusq nuts are - in either black or ivory

i'm with jonathan on this.. a good graphtech or delrin nut is good enough for most trem users anyway !!

the thing i dont like about the LSR is how much adjustment it removes for me, just overall height - i like getting my nut slots just right for each string and the LSR assumes the radius is spot on already.. which it should be but isnt always

I think the improved intonation is what would make me use an Earvana
I do really like the LSR nut though - prefer it to the Wilkinson that went before it
