Swapping my Miracle Man set for ?
« on: July 30, 2008, 01:51:18 PM »
I am thinking  about swapping out my miracle man set. Don’t get me wrong they are great pickups, I will keep them for a different guitar but I think I want something a little different, let me explain.

I am using them with my stiletto and they sound a bit too focussed. The fluid drive setting on the amp is very focussed much like channel 3 on a mark iv. I want something more open and crunchy with good bass response and less highs (the amp is very trebly). The guitar is an mahogany partick eggle berlin.

I was thinking holy divers ? (I have a set lying around but they are F spaced, I guess I could install them and see how they sound). What do you guys reckon ?

do you think it will make a big difference to the sound because the bridge is F spaced in a hard tail guitar.

I have heard not but I am not 100% sure I buy this

Try it, if you don't like it at least it'll give you further clues to find the right pickup for the tone you want.

I don't know if I would like HDs in all mahogany. The treble would be compressed / a bit low in the mix.

less focused and trebly, more crunchy and open miracle man = cold sweat
I was using the miracle man, then went back to the holy diver, then swapped for the cold sweat
the cold sweat still has the ceramic brightness, but sounds more balanced and organic than the miracle man, has more present midrange and less output and compression

Thanks for the info, I will keep the cold sweat in mind but I think I will try the HD 1st.

The guitar is quite small and has a ebony fingerboard so maybe the highs will not be too much of an issue. Also my amp is soooo bright it may not be a bad thing anyway

I love both
but through Mesa amps, I usually prefer ceramics
but if you already have a set, try it
the holy diver is my favorite
probably it will match the bridge spacing, as 90% of the fixed bridges are f-spaced, or at least almost f-spaced

I was thinking Nailbombs or Painkillers actually... I think HDs have more treble than Nailbombs, someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Painkillers would essentially "tone it down a notch".
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.

I just want to say here that I use the Holydiver in my Ibanez RG and the tone of that pickup is my favourite by far! Listen to the opening of this clip, that's the tone I got straight to the amp!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rz9Ocx__vYY&feature=related
Painkiller :: Miracle Man :: Holydiver :: Trilogies
