Cleartone cables, cool stuff
« on: August 22, 2008, 11:54:40 AM »
I just bought myself a 3 metre long cleartone cable with a silent angled jack. They sound awesome. I only ordered it yesterday and got it just now. Looks like the neutrix jacks will stand alot of abuse too.

I have a problem though, the angled jack falls out of my Carvin pretty easily. It's the same jack Ibanez use on their JEM's etc. Is there a jack of this shape but the hole is a touch bigger?

If it's falling out, it's more likely that the bracket which "grips" the tip of the jack has bent back slightly so there's no tension holding it in place.

It's unlikely to be the diameter of the barrel - they're made to a standard size, but if the fit was too snug they'd be too hard to use

Glad you like the Cleartones! :)

The odd thing is, the straight jack without the 'silencer' fit perfect. But the angled jack seems to  push itself out of the socket  :?

It might be worth getting a new jack socket.  That design is prone to failing and they become loose, as you're finding out.  They're about £5-10 and are the same ones as used in some electro-acoustics.

Might be worth trying a fresh one?

What Antag said.
If the socket tip inside the guitar is bent so it's loose the springy bit which cuts of the signal on the silent jack must be popping it out. Or a combination of similar. Pop the control plate off the guitar and give the socket tip and gentle bend to make lock the jack more.
