The Orange 1x12 Cab, any good?
« on: August 24, 2008, 08:01:42 PM »
I'm in dire need for a small cab for my bedroom, with a v30 in it.

And this has it, for a sweet 169 quid too...

Just wondering if anyone has tried it out? Can't get on HC to see reviews or anything at the moment! stupid mobile internet...

Yeah, they're pretty good. Solidly made.

In an ideal world, the cab would be a little larger, which would give it a rather fuller sound, but it is just a 1x12 after all. People buy them for portability. If you want a fuller, richer tone, get a 2x12 or 4x12.

So you're not getting the one with a G12K-100 in it? That's such a loverly speaker :)

I use the Orange 1 x 12 in conjunction with the Orange Tiny Terror for bedroom practice. Mine initially had the G12K-100 in it and I agree with Roo its a great speaker with a very even response. However, I swapped it out for an EVH G12M which gives me more the sound I was looking for. Also, I have the 1 x 12 sat on an Auralex Gramma riser which isolates it from the floor and improves the sonic experience. For live work I use a Cornford Hellcat and 2 x12 cab.

I have one in my living room, also under a TT. I like it, though I have no experience and don't really care about cabs and speakers. It's sturdy, heavy and has a hard foamy bit on it's bottom to couple it to the floor apparently. Orange say that's to help the bass frequencies. I likes it, and it looks good too.

They sound great. But the build quality under the vinyl leaves a lot to be desired. REALLY cheap materials and cr@ppy construction. I suspect their stuff that's made here rather than China is a lot better.
