Almost got my pups fitted, 1 small problem tho........
« on: September 19, 2005, 04:15:10 PM »
Hey guys.

I've managed to get both scratchplates taken off both guitars, and the HSS BK scratchplate Tim made for me fits perfectly in my Fender Strat Plus, so no need to route my old 70s Jap Strat :D

The mounting screws for the Crawler in the bridge of the scratchplate are too long for the route of the guitar, luckilly I managed to find some shorter screws though.

The problem I'm having is that even at the shallowest depth of the screws, the humbucker is still too high in the scratchplate.

This may be a really simple (and obvious) question, but do I need to use slightly longer or shorter screws than what I'm currently using?

Long, deep screws

-apparently you need more depth, which means longer screws...

-it's common for pickup cavity routing to be deeper under the 'dogears' where the screws reside-

-This could be as simple as removing a little wood  down there, but if you're  uneasy about it,  consult your local axegrinder...

check , & check again before drilling out the back of yer axe by mistake!-
If it's an old warhorse,  don't  worry too much about rough edges and doing it yourself...

-If something collectible/valuable, then preserve it's integrity by spending some jing-a-ling that it can bear close scrutiny...
Cheers from Drac...

If you do drill, put masking tape on the bit at the depth you wanna go to, I know it sounds odd but you'll know how deep you are and not kill your poor guitar then.

LOL

/SD mode off

i suggest you take it to a luthier unless you got a drill press. cos a simple mistake can cost you a bit of finish.. plus it looks really ugly LOL. you dont want to see the neck route on my epi SG

Hey guys.

I more or less got the problem sorted, so this thread is kinda redundant now  :?

Thanx for your replies anyway :)
