Dean Pickups
« on: September 04, 2008, 12:24:28 AM »
Just noticed Dean guitars have started making proper pickups which they are using in their guitars now. There's stuff like a Dime neck pickup, both Trivium guys have signature pickups, Leslie West from Mountain, MAB shreddy thing, a Michael Schenker "Lights Out" pickup etc.

Anyone tried any or know if they are any good? If i was to guess i would say they are just using popular names to make it seem like their pickups are worth money, but i will have to try them to find out.

Edit: Having said that they do have 4 non musician named pickups there which could be interesting.

I know dean stock pickups, in the bridge at least, are much better than normal.

I'd be taking Dean Pickups seriously, if all my guitars werent bare knuckled or swinsheaded.

Yep, a friend of mine had a little Dean Baby V, and the stock Dean bridge pickup was surprisingly decent.

Looking at all those pups ready to roll out, it looks like Dean is gearing up for war. Especially at the price point they are selling these pups at. I would love to try out a couple of em in my guitars and compare em against BK, just for my own education.

I must say I'm curious to know what the Vinnie Moore Shredhead is like. I'm a big fan of his playing though not so much of the honky tone on his first two albums, the Meltdown sound is exactly my kind of thing though.

It must be tough launching a whole new range of pickups like that, as there's no way of knowing what they're like unless you're already very familiar with Dean guitars (I'm not).

If you're just looking for a pickup it's so much easier to go for what you know (as Pat Travers might say).

Hmmm - my Schenker fixation does tend to make me curious but looks like a Miracle man and a ceramic magnet mule/Riff Raff would kind of work.

Will speak to Tim - maybe we can call them the "Assault Attack" as that sound is more MSG than UFO

It's part of a major restructuring they've had to bring everything in house. I'd imagine they're at least as good as the Dimarzios and Seymours they've replaced. Of course they have the advantage that you can try them in a shop in the guitars.

the Schenker one sounded pretty tasty in those clips, wish there was some chord work in the clips though and not just shred.

the Leslie West one sound badass too, though the recording was clipped in the bass end.

What struck me was that most sample clips are a bit thin, whereas those ones are all seriously fat.
