Reverb pedal

Hi,

Im looking for a few opinions on Reverb pedals. Normally I perfer reverb on the amp but I picked up a Cornell Romany amp.  It just the normal model not the plus so no reverb.  The ones I have looked at so far are :-

TC electronics - first impression is im not wowed by it

Marshall reflector - Sound nice but ment to brake easily

Electro harmonix - Im thinking in this direction but not sure which model it would be

Trex roommate  -  Best I have heard so far but £200 is quite a lot (well its an Electro harmonix one and a set of Bare knuckle Country boys )

Boss pedal do not know much about


What are your thoughts?

Look at the Line6 Verbzilla. As it's name suggests, it is a monster of a pedal, and pretty good value too.  It'll do anything from a hint of subtle reverb, to all sorts of weird and wonderful reverb effects - espec the "Octo" setting. For me, it's the only Line6 pedal that I would use.
  Just remember that all the Line6 pedals seem to work much better, with less noise, if they have their own dedicated PSU.

I can't comment on the reverbs that I haven't tried but i have tried the holy grail, holier grail and holy grail plus.

I Would def go for the holy grail plus out of the three

The holier grail has a few extra features but i found them pointless.  It came in a massive case, which was a total pain on my pedal board - and i beleive its 18v so you cant run it off a daisy chain - which is even more of a nusance. 

The holy grail (the most basic version)did nt seem to sound all that great and didnt have that many options.

Holy grail plus was compact (built in a proper hammond box) easy to use and the best sounding of the lot.

I get some really natural / great sounding ( sometimes better than amp ) reverb out of my trusty old E.H.X ' Holy Grail' .

It's the older model in the larger wedge shaped casing. I have heard things for and against these - but I guess I got a good one, because I swear by it.  :)

My holy grail is very good. they're only £50 new and you can get one for half that second hand.

The Romany is so small u might as well carry it to the shop and test the EHX's and the T Rex and then make a decision based on priority EHX + pickups vs TREX.

I had a Marshall Reflector until i got an amp with reverb built in. It sounded great, was very cheap and it's solid, built like a tank i don't see how anyone can break a Marshall pedal!

I have the Line6 Verbzilla, it's a fantastic pedal and worth it for the '65 Twin setting alone nevermind all the other settings.  Great value pedal and one thats always in my rig.

I owned the roommate once and loved it. It's one of the pedals I really miss. Not as versatile as others, but sounds really really great, warm and thick. Also loved that chorus bonus function.

Reverbs are rarely right in pedals in my opinion, either they suck tone or/and they don't have a nice and dense decay.

i had the T-Rex Roommate for about 2 days absolute cr@p. UT

I much prefer the Holy Grail, maybe my Roommate was faulty but it kept overdriving.

reverb isnt something i have looked into a great deal.. but the new digitech hardwire line has a reverb pedal on it, they claim to be all true bypass and VERY tough.  I dont think the hardwire line will do anything ground breaking effects wise.. but they look a good pedal.

Bit late now, but if you want reverb, why not just pay an extra £200 for the Romany Plus? Better reverb than
any pedal.

Thanks for all replies most helpfull in deed.  Good point about paying extra for the Romany plus but only reson I managed to get this one was the good 2nd hand price im sure as time goes on im going to wish the amp had reverb built in. That said im having lot of fun with the amp at moment.
