OK, a "which pickup" thread from a not-so-new member :)
I have two PRSes that I want some BKPs for. A Custom 24 that currently has the stock HFS/VB (which aren't bad), & a Singlecut that has a Nailbomb bridge & VHII neck. The VHII neck is staying (absolutely love it, possibly my favourite BKP neck), but Nailbomb sounds far better in a bright guitar, so I'm going to try something else.
My Custom 24 is my "something completely different" guitar, as in it's the one guitar which doesn't
need to do crushing metal brutalilty :) I'm 90% certain that I'll get an
Abraxas set for that because I'm guessing it will work well in a PRS, I don't have any pickups with an A4 magnet &
"warm and exquisite vocal tone" sounds appealing.
For my Singlecut, I'm not sure though. The obvious candidate is a
VHII bridge to make a set, but I was really impressed with the
Black Dog in CrazyJoe's ESP, which has the same set neck construction & thin mahogany body (well, thinner than a LP) w/maple top. That plus
this recent thread about VHIIs in a PRS are making me seriously consider a Black Dog but not sure how it will balance with a VHII neck.
What do you think? BD or VH bridge for the singlecut? Any compelling reason why I
shouldn't put an Abraxas in the C24? What would a BD set in the C24 give me over the Abraxas?
