Replacement for an X2N
« on: September 07, 2008, 08:44:18 AM »
hey, i have an X2N in the bridge of my V.. and it gets an awsome metal tone.. i also have it coil tapped which seems to only knock the vol down a bit but it adds so much edge to the sound.. a totally different tone all together.

What would be the ideal BK replacement? something very hot and coil tapps well...i wish BK did rails.. but they dont so thats out of the window.  I was thinking a painkiller.

I may just stick with the X2N and get something BK for the neck... what would be a good match there?? this guitar is only used for metal.. so a painkiller neck??? or something a little less edgy maybe. any suggestions??

Dave.

I would suggest the painkiller Holy Diver or MM neck just going on what i know you enjoy to play, i will definitely say that the nailbomb & warpigs arent for you.

Out of the three suggested id say MM or Painkiller mainly though.

And for the neck i really think youll like the CS Neck.

The Guitar is a Mahogany ESP V, and my amp is a Starfield SVA-1 (not that that will help anyone)... however im not asking to clone a genre i just want to know what in the BK line would be the closest match to a dimarzio X2N, output wise and toneally.  The X2N is ceramic so that makes the magnet choice easy.  The guitar and amp dont really come into it in this case.

I'd recommend the Painkiller or ceramic Warpig.  The Painkiller has more of a high-mid snarl, whereas the Warpig has more of a thick brutal low-mid growl. The Cold Sweat also is awesome in mahogany.

The good thing about BKPs is even their really hot models are not compressed and and unorganic like most ceramic DiMarzios are. I think you'd be happier with any of these than the X2N personally.

+1
but I wouldn't say that there is any BK similar replacement for the X2N
most BKP's have a strong Duncan/Gibson midrange character, very different from Dimarzios
