Pickup advice
« on: September 15, 2008, 06:40:42 AM »
I play a Dean ML, mahogany body, original floyd. Into a Peavey 6505 212 combo. I play mainly fast, scooped mids thrash, l mostly in the style of James Hetfield and Dimebag Darrell. For the bridge I want something almost like an EMG 81 but without that digital sound all active pickups get, it must be able to pull harmonics easily. Also, no icepick! In the neck I want something that can give a tight, controled bass for fast, articulate riffing, but while still being able to sound full. Clean tones are a nice bonus but won't be used very much at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

miracle man for sure
maybe a painkiller for the neck

but i like the cold sweat bridge a bit better for Pantera
it's not as powerful as the MM, but definitely hotter and crunchier than Darrell's L500 pups

but for the emg 81 voicing and output, the miracle man is the closest choice for sure
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat
