Plus another Krank model. They loved them and said the Krankenstien had tonnes of gain. £800 for a 4x12 though! It is solid wood to be fair.

Slightly O/T, but when did that issue go on sale? Seems like ages ago when I read that?...

That sounds good. Pluging in some Warpigs or Miracle mans through one of those beasts should be an experience!

I picked that issue up the other day in Sainsburys, I only got TG this time because of Jimi being all over the front, but I ordered the woodstock DVD as a result so it's forgiven.

But those Krank amps do look good, but also pricey. And while they gave them glowing reviews I've still heard very polarized opinions on them.

I'm going to Sounds great Thursday to try one out and possibly buy one, and the Engl Powerball. I'll let you know how it sounds.

Total Guitar love everything they review though! Although the soundclips did make it sound very suitable for some good ole slutbangin metal

Ok, not only did I try this amp out, I ended up bringing one home with me!
I actually went out and picked up TG magazine when I heard there was a review of them in there. To be fair, the article is pretty accurate. I chose the Revolution head. I've tried various new amps lately and none of them really stood out of the pack to me. When I plugged this sucker in, I knew I was onto something. It's not as high gain as I'd have thought, I mean there's plenty, but the shredders amongst you may feel the need to push it a little further. I'm gonna stick my SD-1 up front and give that a try.
For such a simple layout, the amp is really versatile at giving you different sounds. The Sweep control emphasizes either low end or high end eq's with everything inbetween. Vintage, modern tones are all in there with a bit of carefull tweaking. It's a very defined tone too, each string is clear and crisp, even when the gain is maxxed. Really tight, foccused bottom end too. Great for detuned riffage!! There are boutique amps out there at twice the cost (Iv'e owned Soldano/Mesa to name a couple) and this thing makes 'em sound like toys.
Get out there and try one!
