Thought I'd give this a bash since I'm keen to be 'wowed' by one of these modelling thingime-whatsi-jigs.

I've gotta say, I've filled in a good hour just with a loop playing and messing with the various amp/cab models, really impressive.

Any tips from the hardcore GR3 users?

I'm gonna plug into my laptop via an effects pedal to match the signal level - anyone got tips on a cheap (<£50) USB interface to use with GR3?

something like a EMU 0404 (a little fuzzy with the #s)? This should get rid of any input noise

Get a good ASIO driver for low latency recording such as Asio4all


My advice is to try out amplitube and revalver as well, it's widely debated as to which one sounds more "real".
And you could also benefit from some TC works and Waves plug ins, like a 10,15, 31band eq, 50 million types of compressors, etc etc.

Do you have firewire as there's a cheap behriger FW that sound quite good would be better latency

I'm a 'hardcore' GR 3 user for sure, Revalver is utter crud and so is Amplitube.

GR 3 feels much better to play through more than anything, all my presets are based upon the 'pink numb lead'

It may just be a Rat into a Hiwatt but i use the 'Ultrasonic' cab with this and i get a real nice metal tone.

Sometimes things sound better if i turn off High Quality mode too...

found it the other day and i quite like the demo's, '4th generation' modeler or something.

Oh, and if you have Protools you can get one called 'Eleven' which from what i've read should be really good too.

I think Guitar Rig 3 is absolutely fantastic. Tons of incredibly usable sounds.

I do not however appreciate that they STILL don't have an update that will allow it to work in Pro Tools on Mac OSX 10.5.

I've had the programme what, 8 months and I still can't use it on any recordings!  :x

I think revalver 2 sounds better than guitar rig or amplitube for metal tones but guitar rig has more gear and effects to play with, there is also the mp3 player which will retune and change the tempo of songs so you can play along
