from the age thread going on at the moment, it probably has something to do with the average age of the people here.. normally its the younger element which bring the hostility. not that all young ens are bad ens.. im on the younger end of things here at 23.

I sort of feel like its out of respect for Tim, because he (well, him and the rest of the BKP team) makes all the pickups that actually fund this board and is actually a nice guy, makes me feel like we have to keep the forum friendly. Compared to something big like Harmony Central (which I still do enjoy even if its unpopular round here) its more intimate, kinda like a small village pub where everyone knows everyone :P

I dont know if that made any sense to anyone other than me

I don't think age has that much to do with it. I've seen posts from guys in their 40-ies or 50-ies that go nuts in a poly versus laquer discussion, Gibson versus Fender discussion, stock versus customizing topics Pledge cleaning topics etc.

I think of these as 'snob topics'. Maybe there aren't that many snobs here.

I like that analogy.  The only problem would be on jam nights, when there would be far too many guitarists !

It also helps that the core of the forum members are very friendly, civilised and grown up. Such behaviour rubs off on the rest.

agreed. the couple of times i have got into an argument here i've felt bad, because it felt like i was letting the place down- on most other forums you'd just flame away regardless...

I think it's to do with the fact that we are all connoisseurs here. Connoisseurs are usually people who are quite mature, whether their thing is Wine, Pickups, or anything else that people can appreciate to the same level as us. You don't usually get aggro kids coming on here and starting all kinds of rucks because they are usually not the kind of people that care enough about a particular thing to become knowledgeable about it. I think that this forum would be a fairly boring place for someone to visit initially if they weren't as passionate about tone as we are, so they don't bother.  :)
Which is good for us. :D

But then connoisseurs can be too picky on other forums..you must have this guitar/fx etc..on here people are fairly open to new ideas and have good advice too
