first post / mm's for my new 7 string carvin?
« on: October 24, 2008, 04:19:07 AM »
Hey everybody,

just got a new sweet 7 string carvin and am thinking of putting in some Miracle Man's.  Looking for the harmonic "Zakk" ability with a nice sustain and smooth lead tone.  Tight bottom end.  Mahogany wood carvin 7 string with floyd.  Don't really want high mids or sharp treble.
So, with all that mumble jumble, what do you guys think?  Will they switch and fit easy enough?
Thanks so much and really like the forum you have here.
Cheers to Tim!

smooth leads = holy diver, alnico pig
tight bottom = miracle man, painkiller, cold sweat
high mids = painkiller
sharp treble = miracle man

well... now I don't know what to recommend
maybe the cold sweat
it's not as sharp as the miracle man and not as middy as the painkiller and pigs
I like it better for Zakk tones on Ozzy than the miracle man
but the miracle man is a bit better for BLS
or you can go extreme with the ceramic warpig
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Wouldn't the mahogany temper the highs of the miracle man?
I have a miracle man in (I think) basswood. You can always cut down the treble with your amp/effects anyway if needs be, but the miracle man is probably perfect for you: very tight bottom end (but at the same time, there's a lot of it!). Harmonic - oh yes, sustain - check, singing leads - should be reet.

I say 1) call tim and describe what you want
2) Go with his suggestion
3) Post back here to tell us what you went for in the end (my money is on the MM!)

:)

I have sent an email to Tim and wait the masters reply.  Thanks for all the info.  I think the MM's will work out fine.  You're right about the treble adj.  I can eq it till the cows come home.  I will tell all the outcome and maybe post some clips as well.  Now the question is what type of cover, colour etc.  I have a flame quilted blueburst maple top with black hardware.  Hmmmm

Sounds like it's got to be black, although the burnt chrome does look really nice, and the aged nickel (which is what I have) is really sexy :)
