Alnico2 pro humbuckers
« on: October 28, 2008, 09:59:00 PM »
Hey guys One of my guitars is a les paul with Alnico 2 pros in them I love slash and Joe perry so I figured that guitar would be dedicated to that tone style. Being a newly converted Bareknuckle man I guess I am curious as to your experience with these pickups I have now.
And I need convincing as to how much happier I will be with bareknuckles in them. I have the cold sweat set. Which rocks. but what set would be closer to these ones with maybe a tad more power?

No problem I like them but I figured that Bareknuckles would have a better option, and I figured someone out there would have some experience upgrading from alnico 2 pros

Ah! You're hooked

I can't help on these pickups, but I thought I'd just say you're not the only one :D

I went through the same thing with my Baja Tele - quite liked the original pups but, having started on BKPs, I had this nagging doubt that maybe they would be "better" in some way... Eventually I went for it and it has turned out superbly - almost taken over as my #1 now. For me, in this particular guitar, it was a stunning improvement - but that doesn't guarantee it will be next time...

I've got the same thing going on with another tele I acquired recently, the pups do a job, but...

I'm likely to go for the same ones, so I've got the option of swapping existing pups to check it out this time, but it's still a "why am I considering this?" dilema at the moment.

My gut feeling (from my experiences) is that if you're in a "my SDs are OK" situation, you won't be disappointed if and when you do change. But if you already love the performance of your existing pups, then it's a bit more of a gamble...

Hopefully someone's done the actual switch you're contemplating and can help you out more :D

Stormy Mondays are closest to Alnico Pro IIs.  If you want a slightly more powerful version, I'm not sure there's a BKP option.  The Mules are hotter, but brighter too.  Might not be what you'd want?

depends how much spare money you have, i guess. i prefer the bareknuckles (which i've tried) to the duncans i've tried, but if it means you miss next month's mortgage payment, the duncans are probably good enough to be getting on with...

You can also get AII mules, they are hotter than Stormy Mondays.
So many pickups, so little time
