Beating the Credit Crunch
« on: November 08, 2008, 03:44:21 PM »
So, over the last couple of months or so I've been doing my bit for the global economy by trying to spend my way out of the current financial crisis.

I've posted some of this stuff before, but the Mules were fitted today, which was the final part of my splurge.

Yamaha SG 200 with Mules.

Framus 2x12.

Rat modified Blackheart Little Giant.

The SG is amazing.  I loved it as soon as I played it.  Second hand, rough around the edges, but felt so right.  It was pretty damn good with the stock pups, but with the Mules it growls, it spits and it bites!  Brilliant, brilliant sound.

The Framus is superb - I've been wanting a 2x12 for ages, but have been put off by the high price of them.  This was about £150 I think, and is well worth the money (I put a version of "The Loner" in the players section, which has this cab miked).

And the Little Giant is pretty damn cool too.  Five watts, which is really still too loud.  But you can switch between EL84 and 6V6 - I keep it on 6V6 all the time, because it gives a brilliant shimmering clean sound.  It can also switch between valve and solid state rectifier, and you can tell the difference - the valve seems to breath more, if you know what I mean.  Not convinced about the PowerScalling - haven't really found it that usable.

So there you go - not a MASSIVE spend, but pretty good for me.

Now I want at Tube Screamer (BBE Green?), as soon as the wife looks the other way...

Mark.

Oh, I also bought a Pitch Black tuner.

Don't feel too bad man, I have been through a few expensive amps and pedals over the last few years and right now all I have left is my Cube 20X and Keeley SD-1. Not one bit ashamed about it either! :D

... also, I didn't really spend that much, not really.  Given that the SG cost me £180 (less, in fact, than the pickups...) I was actually being quite thrifty!
