Amp rental ?
« on: November 11, 2008, 02:26:24 PM »
I have been running a stiletto ace for about 18 months now. I really like it for what it does but I have been thinking for a while I want a more modern tone. After seeing Alter Bridge on Saturday I am 100% sure I do.

The amp that springs to mind for me is the roadster but I am not willing to drop that kind of money without hearing it in a band setting (I have heard rectos can lack cut and a decent lead tone although I have no experience so it could just be an interweb myth).

I was wondering if any of you guys know if anyone in the south east rents out amps ?

i dont know, the only place i know you can try an amp to any degree is if a rehersal room has one in... i think you are pretty much stuck to interwebs research and limited testing in shops if you can find what you want.

Tremonti in alterbridge... search on youtube for tremonti gear tour... and their is a good vid of him guiding around his rig... i havent seen it for a while, but i think its made up of Mesa MK4s.. and another mesa... maybe a roadking.. or recto.. i cant really remember.

Dreamhire in London does, but they don't have a boutique selection, I don't think.

FX rentals have some amps, give them a call, as they've got more stuff that isn't listed on the website. They're very reasonable too, and repeat (and friendly!) customers can get a discount. They do offer a delivery service too, so you may be able to work something out :)

All of the band should go into a shop separtely and set up on the gear that they want.  Then all you have to do is sneak over to the drummer and thrash it out as much as you can before you all get kicked out  :D
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Love that idea. Like the scene in the blues brothers.

Realistically, it may not be possible. I assume you've tried 'amp hire' or similar in google. Before I bought my fender I was able to try out a mate's. With my 65 amp - no chance. I think the number of them in London is in single figures.
