Spider Jam or JM4 + different amp?
« on: November 09, 2008, 05:10:02 PM »
Right ... let's say that I've got £300-£350 ish for a new amp.  Because Xmas is coming.

I want something primarily for home practice / fun / noodling, although something that sounds halfway decent would be good for very un-serious "band" practice too.  95% home use, 5% make-noise-with-drummer.

Have been thinking Spider Jam or Peavey Vypyr, with a big attraction being the looper function, plus (with the Jam) the play-along option.  Some don't like the "tone" from the Jam, which has put me off a little ... Chances of my actually trying one out is very low.

Alternatively, I could get a JM4 pedal for the Jam-functionality (est £200ish) and spend perhaps £100-£150 on an amp ... possibly something s/h with minimal on-board fx and a better basic sound.  50w min probably (the drummer has a loud kit ).  I was thinking Vox Valvetronic before I saw the SpiderJam/Vypyr.

Thoughts?

where you rehearse do you have a pa?? you could get a Pod XT or X3 live and just hook it into the pa for rehearsing.  That would leave you with the option for recording as well... also it would leave you with a pretty cool bit of kit instead of a pretty naff amp.
