Bass/Mid/Treble for these BKP's?
« on: November 07, 2008, 06:26:54 PM »
Just want some opinions (from those who have had a few BKP's) on the bass/mid/treble balance of these bridge pickups - it's hard to tell from the product descriptions how they compare to each other:
Warpig
Painkiller
Nailbomb
Cold Sweat
Crawler
I'm after a new 7-string bridge pickup for a mahogany explorer type guitar - I've always had Warpigs before but I fancy something different!
Any opinions greatly appreciated.
Cheers all,
Rich

Arbitrarily setting an 81 at 5-5-5, because any numbers are meaningless without a reference its something like

Warpig - 7 4 5
Painkiller 6 5 5
Nailbomb 6 5 4
Cold Sweat - never used the bridge.
Crawler 5 6 4

Or thereabouts.

That's interesting, thanks.
I really love my Warpig in an ash 7-string thru-neck I have, but I would like a bit more mid from it really (to get a bit more 'character' from the sound). I'm not sure whether to still go for a Pig (because in mahogany I think it will have more low mids anyway), or whether to go for something with more more mids in the pickup (I really like most Crawler clips that I've heard). I can still get plenty of bottom-end because I use a Diezel herbert which has more than enough bass for anyone!!! (my Warpig seven string through my Herbert could do you some damage if you let it!).
I've emailed Tim aswell so it'll be interesting to see what he says.
Any other opinions very welcome!
Cheers,
Rich

Weird, I thought Warpigs were supposed to be very mid-heavy.

I'm thinking of writing a little script for the forums that physically stops MDV and Eric from being able to post in the same thread on the Pickups section!

Mids they have, but balanced they are. Presence of the mids in the harmonic detail is found, in level it is not. See this you will, in the difference between ceramic and alinico, smoother is the same voicing with different magnet, yes, and so forward in your perception it is not.

Right as I came back to the thread to read all the Yoda talk, music from Star Wars came up in Pandora. That's the second such coincidence I've had on this forum this week with Pandora.

You weren't in one of the Tele threads when Dolly Parton piped up on Pandora, were you?
