From the pictures alone you can tell they're absolute junk.
Not to mention they are undoubtedly filled to the brim with lead!
That story about the 15-y-o kid was somewhat of a cheap shot, though, i am sure they would rile up less sympathy if it was 38-y-o father of 6 with 7 other gibson LPs. Surely though, it must have been a real shitety experience, no doubt about it. I would scream bloody murder myself.
