Acoustic amps
« on: December 25, 2008, 09:35:59 PM »
Hey guys,

Looking for a good acoustic amp for smaller gigs in the $300-$500 price range. Not real familiar with acoustic amplifiers so I am looking for a bit of advice. I have been checking out the Roland AC-60 and Marshall/Crate/Fender amps in the same price range. Anyone with experience and a little advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Roland keyboard amps are quite good for acoustic guitar. If you're playing an electro-acoustic, you will want to use a direct box and go into your amp for monitoring as well as a PA, if there is one. Polytone are solid state amplifiers that are the cat's pajamas for clean acoustic and semi-acoustic sounds.

I've used a borrowed pair of Marshall AS50R combos that sounded pretty good. They're pretty cheap but decent and reliable, I ran them one either side with vox and guitar as a quick setup and it worked well in the medium sized pub.
