Riff Raff Questions?
« on: December 26, 2008, 04:02:26 PM »
I've got a bridge Riff Raff model in my '78 Les Paul at the moment it's such a rockin' pickup deffinatly one of my favourites so far, I could swear it said on the box it was Alnico II though, but i've thrown the box away and was wondering if they ever made a Alnico II version? it's deffinatly a BRIDGE model though not the neck.

It sounds Alnico V to me it's brighter and more crunchy than the Mule which I've had using Alnico IV and the Alnico II Pearly Gates which preceeded that, it's similar to the VH2 but without the asymetrical (single coil ish) sound.

so yea anyone know if they made a Alnico II version or did I just read the box wrong lol, I bought it from my work so I got a nice deal on the price too muahah ;)

I think the very first Riff Raffs had AII, but then Tim changed the spec.  My RR box says AII as well, but the pickup itself is definitely AV.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I got a RR recently and it says AII on the box but after contacting Tim, he said they're AV.
BKPS: Cryogenic Apache set, Mule set, Riff Raff, Stormy Monday.
