media players and EQ

just wondering how many people fiddle with the EQ on their media players, I've been messing with winamp's EQ, I used to have a slight boost on bass and treble, fiddling with it on my setup I think I now prefer it with bass boost and a mild treble cut

my listening setup isn't anything special, creative audigy 2 card and sennheiser pc150 headphones

I take out the treble on my mobile as well, it seems to get rid of some of the harshness

what settings do you guys use?

I usually just leave it flat, for some reason whenever I eq in a media player it sounds really fake and shite, even if I do small boosts or cuts :?

Very small adjustments to compensate for headphones on media players, when I know the headphones sound.

I used to abuse EQs pretty hard when I used shitety speakers. No longer.

Such a thing aint possible unless you were in the studio at the time. Just sayin'.

It wasn't meant to be heard like it was in the studio was it? :P They would have to factor in that everyone won't have a mega stereo.

I sometimes want to EQ bootlegs though, it just seems like something is wrong with the recording

Thats the sound that it was created to have though. Extensive referencing aside.

Really, you'd have to have a vulcan mind meld with the musicians, engineer, producer and mastering engineer.

I don't do this on my media players, but strangely I always do it in every car I get into. Even rental cars or something, first car I did was my dad's, fiddled with treble, some mids, bass, nothing that amazing. Still weird.

On my Mac I play music with the EQ off (or flat) whether using iTunes or Cog, I do have EQ set up on VLC for watching films/TV and don't turn that off out of laziness, even when listening to DTS audio.
On my iPod I try to use subtle EQ to fill out the low end and add some zing without scooping the mids or causing too much distortion.

Well obviously, but I'd prefer to have it as close as possible. iTunes lossless->soundcard->studio monitors.

I have my mp3 player EQ with the treble boosted a little, because my earphones are a little bass-heavy, but otherwise, flat. The EQ would have to change for every song to sound right, and I simply could not be bothered.
