7 String pickups replacement - PAF7
« on: February 14, 2009, 01:39:00 PM »
Hi. I'm from czech and i felt in love with BKP, i decided for changing my pickups for some of BKP.
I have Ibanez APEX with stock pickups, there are Dimarzio PAF-7. I want something other, maybe some Nailbomb or some other pickups, with balanced mids.
I'd be honored, if someone left me a msg. :)

greets TJ from Czech Republic.

welcome to the forum!

what are you looking for?
what do you play and what's your amp/pedals?

I wouldn't say the nailbomb has "balanced" mids
it has a huge mid hump!

Thx so much for greetings :))

I was searching for some references, and i found nailbomb or cold sweat cute.

At the moment I'm playing on Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier throught Orange PPC412 and would love to buy some Keeley TS9 mod plus pedal + some TC G-major or that stuff ..

:D OK, so I'm impressed about those "midhumpping" pickups :)

Aye, Nailbomb-7 in the bridge, Cold Sweat-7 in the neck, ideal :)

Definitely seems to be the BKP 7 string favourite.

don't go alnico!
a cold sweat set will be perfect, unless you wanna play Jazz or something
it's a very balanced and grainy sounding pickup
it's not as middy as the nailbomb, but through distortion, the grain on the midrange make the mids sound more evident
and will definitely cut way better through a Rectifier, specially considering you have a keeley ts9, that works as a slight mid boost
the Holy Diver is very similar to the Nailbomb and didn't as work well with the Recto I had as ceramic pups (like the Miracle Man or Gibson 500t)
those amps need strong, sharp and crunchy sounding pickups to get alive
I love the Holy Diver through middy and tight amps, like Peavey, for example

if you want even MORE mids and a hair more output, try the Painkiller, but I think the Cold Sweat has a bit more "mojo" and still sounds somewhat close

if you're going for heavier rock/metal styles, then yes!
not that the nailbomb can't sound awesome too
but alnico pups usually sound a bit cold through Rectos, imo

As a 7-string diehard and BKP dealer, I highly recommend the Painkiller. It's always a winner in mahogany body/maple neck 7s. The Cold Sweat, Nailbomb and others could yield terrific results too but the PK7 in mahogany Ibanez = special \m/

here's a short cr@ppy quality video I recorded of my friend (he's not Dino cazares ) playing a heavily upgraded Ibanez RG7321 (custom brazilian mahogany body, painkiller 7 in the bridge, warpig 7 in the neck) straight into my Framus Cobra half stack (no boost/celestion greenback speakers)
it sounded great in the room and even in the recorded video, but youtube screwed both video and audio  :?

I still prefer the Cold Sweat, though
