i had actually considered mentioning the cornford hurricane which you mentioned in your list, as it's awesome, but i didn't think it'd do the tones you wanted.

Lots of wisdom here bro. I play through a TT, and I am an Orange Zealot. I have to say that Orange amps are quite excellent, and you could easily get a good rockerverb combo for that amount. If you have custom options thats good too. I also would like to second the opinions on the Vox AC 30. Dude I have to say I really feel that that Amp is one of the best for its price. Especially with those Alnico Blue speakers. I had the privilege of playing one once, and I was totally blown away. Unfortunately it was out of my price range. If you get a chance try one out. Satisfaction Guaranteed you should look into having more than one channel in your amp though. Having two channels is realy nice and eliminates the need for some pedals

Some of the amps I've been looking at are:
Fender Blues Junior
Cornell Romany
Cornford Hurricane
Bad Cat Classic Cat
Orange Tiny Terror
Vox AC 15 or 30
DR Z Carmen Ghia

Stu, I have a Romany Plus and it's a great little amp, like old tweed era Fender, lovely clean tone, but
you would never keep it clean anywhere near gigging volume(as pointed out by hamfist). A bigger Cornell amp
could be ideal, but would take you over a grand. Or you could pick up a decent old Fender Twin, your ears would
be bleeding by the time that broke up!

Just thought I'd give you an update now I finally made a decision and got a new amp.

It's a Vox AC15 handwired.

Haven't had much of a chance to play it but so far it sounds amazing and has a nice variety of sounds using the 2 channels.

Depending on which input and power settings I use I can go from warm, sparkling cleans to a great crunch tone.

Thanks to every one for helping me with the decision.

does the AC15 have enough headroom for you? - I'd have thought you'd struggle keeping it clean enough in a gigging scenario.

nice amp though if you want it to crunch up - some really nice clips of them on youtube.

I play with a very polite drummer and I've never not had my amp mic'd at a gig so hopefully it shouldn't be a problem. I could've got the AC30 for the extra headroom but couldn't afford the cost or the weight.
When I get a chance I might post some clips using my Organic classic.

Great purchase !!  I used to love my AC30 Handwired head, that I had a year or so ago. I was shocked at the headroom - seriously loud amps for the wattage !

I miss that one !

Not bad, but a bit dark and thick sounding for me - I sold it a while back!

Very nice!

Is that a single channel amp or does it have a gain channel as well?
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

It has two input channels each capable of clean and low gain crunch. The channels have different characters but you have to be plugged into one or the other unless you use an AB box. The controls are very simple although quite unusual compared to more modern designs. I plan to use the amp at levels where the amp just starts to break up and use a boost and overdrive pedal to get extra gain.
