matching neck pup for mm...
« on: March 08, 2009, 07:00:37 PM »
ok im thinking of definately getting a miracle man bridge in my gibson les paul (mahogany)
i want a pickup set that has loads of bottom end, searing treble and cutting mids, for sounds like machine head, trivium, bullet, arch enemy, cob etc...
tim said the mm bridge would do that n it sounds good,
but i think i may have put too much emphasis on getting good organic sounding cleans, he said get a nailbomb neck to go with it, im geussing this would lend a smoother upper middy sound.. but i think i may have confused tim... the number one thing is deffinately a modern metal tone like the afformentioned bands... im getting a 6505 with a matamp 2x12 cab loaded with g12k-100's celestions... im pretty sure this will get me the right kinda sounds... ;)
but yh want to get a set of pickups to really complete that sound as the gibsons in my les paul dont have the aggresion and clarity i want...
so do you think the nb is a good idea ?
or another neck pup more suited?
cheers guys

Depends what you want from your neck pickups. If we're talking good cleans, you should get those from either the MM or NB neck (both AlNiCo). I suspect Tim suggested the NB neck because of other factors than clean sound, based on what you asked.

I bet you'd be happy with either, but if it were me, I would go with Tim's suggestion. The lad knows what he's talking about ;) Besides, we're not talking about the difference between a C-Pig and a Manhattan, here - these are, in the grand scheme of things, pretty similar pickups which will both excel for what you seek :)
