1megK pot with warpig
« on: February 23, 2009, 07:54:24 AM »
Just posting a quick review about it. I did a re-pot and re-cap of my guitar. My warpig has a 1megk volume pot, and the whole guitar has sprague orange drop caps.

Now, im not sure whether its the caps or the pot, but it sounds like i just took a blanket off of the pickup. It sounds MUCH more open and huge. The treble response change was minimal, but there is definitely a tad more sparkle on the high end. Furthermore, it has a lot more bass coming out of it. Resounding chugging bass. Sounds amazing. It seems tighter and clearer than before. Which is saying a lot because it came tight and impressively clear to start with. I haven't emphasized enough how open it sounds. Thats mostly what it did was open it up. Seems that theres more highs AND more bass.
To the people who are considering warpigs: this review is not meant to make you think warpigs arent clear or tight. They are. They are ridiculously fat and warm, with just enough tightness. High strings sound amazingly thick, and low strings will shake the earth before you. This mod only furthers how good this pickup sounds.

I recommend this mods for everybody. Orange drops and 1meg pots for alnico warpigs.

just added a coil tap to the warpig.

You can't tell its a single coil hahahahh. Its VERY fat sounding for a single. The only time you really notice it is when you crank up the gain and stop playing and hear the buzz hahaha.

Ok, the Feline SG is gonna receive 1 meg CTS pots aswell, and ill report on the difference. This will be along with a setup for C-tuning, tis gonna get heavy! Tim also recommends 1 or even 2 meg pots.

I found 2meg pots were very bright, and went back to 1 meg.  I got mine from Torres Engineering http://www.torresengineering.com/guitparmorin.html

i tried 1m pots on a dark guitar a while ago. i liked the effect on brightness, but it wasn't enough. anyway, i posted here about it. phil said, don't go for 2m since they're very bright. i tried them anyway and took them out since they're very bright

before you spend your money on 2m pots - run it without the tone control, or even the volume control too. it will give you what higher value pots will do.

I bought some 1 meg pots after reading this thread. Just replaced the bridge volume pot (tone pot disconnected) in my Warpigged SG and it sounds immense  :D (more immense, that is).

Thanks for the tip!
