Mule (Neck) + Les Paul + 50s Wiring anybody???
« on: March 11, 2009, 03:22:22 AM »
Hey guys, taking my guitar to my tech tomorrow for a possible refret. I was curious if anybody has 50s wiring in their Lester, with a mule? Mine is uncovered FWIW. Just seeing if it would be worth it while in the shop, thanks!!
Trying to find where I've been...

I used 50s wiring on my LPs when I had them, and I use it in my PRS-s.  I like it a lot, opens up the tone that little bit more and makes the volume/tone interaction more useable.

It seems to be a matter of personal taste - I found it's kinda swings and roundabouts between the 50s and modern wiring.

I'd recommend learning how to do the wiring yourself - it's not as bad as it looks - because once you've standardised your wiring (eg Japanese wiring is "modern" but doesn't seem to match all the diagrams you find!), the switch back and forth betwen 50s and modern is really quick and easy :D

There's lots of information on the internet.  Google "Les Paul 50s modern wiring" or similar and you'll get the info you want.  Or read the wiring part of this doc:
