so the plan is, on saturday, drag my vox(insert many characters...)ad30vt-xl to the shop.

i'm after something simple, which hopefully won't cost more than £300 with the trade included.  The kinda sound i'd love to get hold of is a doug aldritch kinda vibe, so (sl)easy distorion with rich harmonics through classic rock.  If the amp can tidy itself up for more modern stuff that's great too.  I don't particularly need effects, 'cept a little reverb and i've got a wylde overdrive to push it over the top if needed.  Modeling amps also 'feel' a bit strange to me, part of the reason the vox is going.

with that in mind, i've checked out the local's website, they have a 2nd hand randall rg50tc, a number of epi valve amps, a line 6 flextone 3, and blackstar ht-5 combo in my kinda range.

any thoughts/input greatly appreciated! :P

oh, and i live in a flat - so volume really isn't something I'm after.  My ltd's loaded with emg 60/85 (if i've remembered right) and my jackson's loaded with nailbombs if that's any help.

I think the Blackstar may be the best bet!  You can always get the Behringer reverb pedal on the cheap to provide the verb effect

Blackstar HT5 also Fender Jnr Blues (although prolly need a pedal some people find these sharp but I like them) and Vox AC4TVH and V112TV (head and 1x12 Cab again add pedal to match blackstar range).

Blackstar most flexible of those but depends on how classic your classic rock is.

Think folks would also suggest SH Corford Harlequin but I han't heard one

that's kinda what I was thinking, plus with the blackstar you get an extension out don't you?  so if ever i need that 12" speaker i'm sorted...cornford sounds like a nice idea but as soon as you use that 'c' word the price shoots up!

Talking of Blues Jr - they are worth checking out as the master volume allows you to get a full range of tweedy valve tones (although not really blackface spanking clean without the BillM mods) at low bedroom volumes (I live in a terrace house, so I can testify to this).  As Bradock says - they also love pedals.  No way a brootalz amp but really great for blues, blues rock and classic rock.

right, hit a bit of an obstacle - andertons don't have any ht-5's in, and guitar village won't take my amp as part-ex.  Anyone know of any other decent guitar shops around the guildford area?

can't help you with the guitar shops, sorry, do you know how long will Andertons be out of stock ? Maybe you could sell yours private in the mean time

You'll probably get a bit more for your current amp if you sell it privately than part-ex it... maybe. Worth considering, as it doesn't then limit you to only one or two stores within 100 miles that you can actually buy the Blackstar from! :)
