Warpig neck model
« on: April 14, 2009, 07:30:51 PM »
What differences are there in the neck version of the standard A5 (and ceramic for that matter) Warpig? I mean in terms of output, eq, etc...? I tried searching but came up with less than I hoped for. Thanks!

ask tim, but i suspect they're exactly the same pickup... i believe that just the bridge is ceramic.

Thanks. Thought I'd query the collective wisdom & experience here before pestering Tim :-) I see from the product page that the DCR is lower on the neck model, but of course that doesn't always tell the whole story. Good to know about the ceramic being bridge only though.

the neck model sounds a lot like the miracle man neck
it has a lot less top than the bridge model, so it's no near as aggressive
it's just very fat, spongy and fluid

Sorry but that's not correct. The neck Warpig (and all of the others in the range) are wound totally differently than the bridge. In fact, the ceramic Warpig is an option, the 'normal' one has an A5 magnet.

All good calibrated sets of pickups have a lower wound neck. Having two identical pickups in the neck and bridge leads to problems with balanced output between the two, as the neck is naturally 'louder'.

I'm pretty sure dheim meant that the neck pickup in an A-pig set and the neck pickup in a C-pig are the same, and that the difference between the sets is the magnet in the bridge :) 'course, it doesn't exactly answer the OP's question, but i misread the OP's question in exactly the same way (assuming my interpretation of dheim's post is correct).

absolutely correct!
i have misread the question, i realized it just now! sorry...

so here's my true answer...
NO! they're absolutely not the same pickup! it's less hot, it has better cleans and, as said eric, it's warm, fat and fluid. it retains a lot of bridge's midrange, though. it's an excellent complement to the bridge model, like every BKP. i'm beginning to go for mixed sets just because i've already got calibrated sets and like to experiment a bit, but they're the best way to go.

Thanks. Ever tried the neck model in the bridge position?

well
on the neck position, it sounds a lot like the miracle man neck
and the miracle man neck sounds pretty well on the bridge position
it's like a darker/fatter/more spongy holy diver
maybe it might work well on ash or alder
