Does anyone here manage to get that elusive live tone from the PG Blues?
The quest for this tone has led me to spend decades of time, thousands of pounds and many relationships.
The endless pursuit for certain tones through the years has me at the door of Tims 'Bareknuckle' company.
I bought one of those Vintage 'Icon' Peter Green Les Paul type guitars recently and quite enjoyed the middle out-of-phase sounds it yields, but when selecting either the bridge or the neck separately, the dull, cheap sounding facsimile of a PAF sound is highly disappointing.
Therefore, I am about to 'get real' with a set of the PG Blues and play with conviction again!
One of the greatest pure tones I've ever heard is the above-mentioned live BMW tone.
Somehow, clear, clean, bell like and soft overdrive that doesn't get flabby or woolly on the bottom E or A!
Many a time, a Les Paul will conquer on the bridge, but the neck is all but unusable and without pick touch-sensitivity and harmonics, the experience with the neck in such a guitar has made me cautious!
Another halcyon tone is the Carlos Santana Les Paul tone from the early 70s!
Whilst I love the modern fat Dumble /PRS love-in, the 'Welcome' or 'Lotus' tone of yore is my favourite of all time.
When straight in to a Boogie mark1, Carlos managed to yield the greatest fat but usable sounds.
I believe the 'PG Blues' will capture all this and more through a similar toned amp but more importantly, because of the variety of switching/phase options, you'll never be without a decent tone when attending a jam or doing a blues rock gig and recording.

Welcome n00b!

Which you clearly arent, but thats my standard greeting, gotta be even-handed, y'know?

I have no idea what the PG set sounds like. Never played it. However

"Somehow, clear, clean, bell like and soft overdrive that doesn't get flabby or woolly on the bottom E or A!
Many a time, a Les Paul will conquer on the bridge, but the neck is all but unusable and without pick touch-sensitivity and harmonics"

You shouldnt worry about these factors with any BK.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest.
I was out on the town with a lovely lady yesterday.
She was whispering sweet nothings into my ear, but all I could think about was what tone the PG Blues will give me through a Vox AC30!
I know...I need to get out more!

Hello and welcome Jeff.  :)

I don't own any P.G Blues pickups - but if even Gary Moore thinks they sound authentic, then the outlook is good ! Also B.K.P seem to test / develop their products very thoroughly.  I was interested to hear that your choice of amp is an AC30 - which is also the 'amp of choice' for that other Peter Green collaborator / tasteful player Snowy White .

It's nice to see some more Peter Green / subtle tone appreciation around here .  I always remember that famous B.B.King quotation , that :

" Peter Green is the only player I've heard - whose tone makes me sweat " ....

Enjoy the pickups, the guitar  - and hopefully the forum.   :)

The live tone is easy to get from the PG Blues.  You just had me playing for over an hour just to check out the tones available.  Using my Ceriatone JTM45/18 (with one TMB MV Marshall channel using NOS GE and Sylvania 12AX7's and one vox with a NOS Sylvania EF86, Groove Tubes ECC83M phase inverter, a pair of Shuguang KT66's and a JJ GZ34), into a 1x12 with a Scumback M75LHDC and a Fulltone RTO (Robin Trower Overdrive), I was in Les Paul blues heaven.  I could get everything from the clean shimmery chords in Black Magic Woman all the way to Whole Lotta Love!  I had brilliant harmonic feedback and all the tones I wanted.
So many pickups, so little time

There's real dedication to the cause here.
Peters live tone depended on so many variables, but his pick ups and choice of guitar were pivotal.
From the replies  on this subject, I'll wager you guys get that tone.
Gary Moore has PG Blues because he has never shaken the love for that sound, but to me, it is merely a recognition of purity over brashness/angels over demons etc!
