Peach Blossom as a tonewood?
« on: April 13, 2009, 08:27:36 PM »
Found this store on Ebay and the prices are pretty darn cheap:
http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Papa-Ds-Music-Store_bodies_W0QQ_fsubZ6723025QQ_sidZ63831824QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322

So I have to ask, is it because Peach Blossom is a rubbish tone wood? I've not really heard about it being used. Some of these bodies are Basswood with Peach Blossom tops.

Probably alright for a first project but to me the price screams "Don't touch this wood with a barge-pole!"

I think they look very nice. All 3 piece though. I don't really know if its that bad though, Probably great for an experimental first project. + it sounds real cool!

meh..

.. it wont be great unless you are lucky.  it doesnt mean it will be bad though.  I dont have experience with peach blossom but most fruit woods i have come across seem to be a little unstable... fine if they have been dried properly not so good if they havnt.  for the price it may be worth a punt but personally i wouldnt bother

also sounds a bit, erm, how to put it, like you'd use it for a telecaster... Darling.

Hardly sounds like a man's timber does it?

Yeah I was thinking, probably best just to steer clear of it. I'd imagine it to absorb sound rather than give any sustain, but maybe it's a word association thing. Peaches = fuzzy, like soundproofing foam. Probably a psychological thing.  :D

Oh god, I shouldn't rise to the bait, but....

I know you hate Teles, but I just don't see how you can possibly perceive them as effeminate or homo-erotic in any way.  Look who plays/played them - Joe Strummer, Wilko Johnson, Keith Richards, Roy Buchanan, Steve bloody Zodiac... Danny Gatton, surely the most blue-collar professional guitarist of all time.

The only way you could make Gatton look gay would be by getting him to play... some weird baritone thing made out of poncey exotic woods.
