Gibson vs Bare Knuckle

So what's the lowdown on the Warpig? I've got a gibson voodoo V with the 500t & 496r ceramics still in there, and am considering changing them. They're hotass pickups, people usually comment the neck is too hot, but I like that; I play a lot of messy punk & hardcore - usually from the neck with a heavy crunch to give a really nasty sound. I really love the pickups and wouldn't change them for anything less than the dirtiest bar-steward pick-ups known to man. I've heard about bare-knuckle pickups through magazines and buddies (who the f*ck hasn't??) and am getting interested in them and will most definitely look out for them at the LGS.

But  what I really want now are some opinions from peeps who've changed their gibson hot ceramics for bare-knuckles, on a les paul or whatever.

I'm quite familiar with the 500T ceramic that Gibson make and it's a good sounding pickup in some guitars. The problem I have with it is that it uses extra flanking magnets on the sides of the pickup which I find distorts the magnetic field and muddles the harmonics. As with all Gibson pickups it's made very well.
For a comparitve tone I'd look at the Miracle Man-it's richer and more harmonically detailed but similar output. For a slightly more mid orientated tone, fatter, then go for the Nailbomb. Similar output but more organic, chunkier mids-not harsh or honky though.

IMHO you cannot compare a BKP with a Gibson pickup. I've had the 500T and the 496R in my explorer before i got my set of VHII's and the difference is incredible. The Gibsons sound so thin, sterile, hard etc etc if you compare it to a BKP. I also have a set of warpigs that kicks Gibsons butt all the way!

As i said erlier this in only my opinion, you have to make your own  :)

The 500T and 496R do indeed sound good in certain guitars, and awful in others. I currently have two guitars with them in and they sound great .

However - one of these two guitars ( a satin black goithic Feline SG type guitar with a thicker than normal body and a 25" scale) is about to have them swapped out for Warpigs and will be on test at the London Guitar Show.

It will be interesting to see how it will sound with the WPs- can't wait.
I just know that the handmade and scatter wound pickups will hyave a great tone and my experience of the strong mids on the Warpig is gonna make for a great solo tone as well as mega riffage!
