I am about to order my first set of BKP's! Small dilema
« on: April 23, 2009, 11:50:59 PM »
So I am about to order my first BKP's. I am going to get a Riff Raff set for my Gibson SG Special.
I have spoken to Tim and have plans to buy an Irish Tour set for my Fender Strat and a Mule(n) and Black Dog(b) for my Gibson Les Paul. I am just ordering the Riff Raffs for now though.

I know that the Gold pickup covers look pretty sweet in an SG but I was wondering if anybody here has ordered the aged gold pickup covers before? I know they give the guitar that vintage look and I was wondering if anybody has any pics of the aged gold pickup covers, I don't really know if it is worth paying the extra £20 for.

Aside from my trivial dilema I am really excited about getting my first set of BKP's as I have never heard a bad word said about them (which is more than can be said for any other pickup company).

Thanks!
BKP's own: Irish Tours, Mule(b), Black Dog(b)
BKP's had: Riff Raffs, Nailbombs

and yes.  the £20 is worth it because gold pickups look like you are trying to pimp your grandma.

wheras the £20 extra buys you some older looking gold pickups and we can assume you brought them when gold pickups where appealing ;) :P

sorry... i am not  a fan of gold hardware.  new gold hardware is terrible - i can cope with it when its worn a bit and some real metal is showing through

it really depends...
usually i don't like too much gold hardware, but in some guitars i couldn't think of something else!

....not a soooo big dilema though : you have already done the most important part of the job   8)

I am not a fan of gold harware too.

Don't know what color is your SG special, but anyway I found it's looking more raw and simple than refined or sophisticated like a LP custom (which might be more approriate for gold hardware, but not sure...I have a dislike with the gold hardware !)

So I am thinking something totally different (which may not be your thing ).

Look at Those Black Distressed finish :  PDT_023

It depends what the rest of the guitar looks like though - if it's all new and shiny with bright gold hardware, "aged" gold pickups will look completely out of place.

What colour's the rest of the hardware on the SG Special?  It would normally be chrome (nickel on the tuners probably), so I'm wondering why gold for the pickups?

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I was actually thinking the aged gold pickups might look good on the SG Special because it's got a faded finish:

I know the quality isn't that great but it's the best pic I have of the guitar:

Maybe aged/raw nickel?

(I'd change the bridge and tailpiece to nickel too, because I'm fussy about these things  )

nooooooooooo!
i'd NEVER put gold pickups on that one!
nickel or (better, IMO) black covers would be much more appropriated.

Black distressed would make that guitar a killer guitar. Yes they would suit that Lady so fine, and you'll call her She-wolf !

Well in the end I ordered a chrome covered set as the guitar has a chrome bridge and tailpiece.
Can't wait 'till they arrive and to get them in!
