Indy; I've got the greenback in my combo and I must say the difference is no where near as big as I was expecting, at least for bedroom volumes anyways. It might be that the voicing is too prominent? It has tamed the harsh highs a bit though so it's worth doing but I'd give G10 Vintage a go too.
Interesting! I might give the G10 Vintage a go then and report back! :)

I look forward to hearing how the speaker upgrade goes

I love my HT5, but coming from modellers I'm probably bias, need some bkps now!!!

if I was to nit pick I wish it had a 12" speaker so I had more choice of upgrading in the future but that's about it

Best to get the head if you want upgradability, although the blackstar cabs are 2x10s dun understand this my Vox AC4 is a 10 but the head and Cab has a 1x12. Woulda seemed sensible for them to do 1x12 cabs sell the half stack and and as single. They don't even sell the cabs seperately if you buy the HT5 head.

Urgh, this thread is pretty relevant to me. I'm looking at getting an HT5, but the speakers are the sticking point. I don't know if I want to get the combo (with a view to later upgrading the speaker or getting an extension cab), or the head and a 1x12 or 2x12. And I don't know which speakers I would want if I did upgrade or get a cab >.< It'd be an easy decision if cabs weren't so heinously expensive
BKPs (soon): CS, TS.

I like :D I have a viper too, oddly enough. I'm in Australia, so Martamp is a bit hard to find (or any cheap cabs, really), but I'm more and more set on getting the head and a cab, now. What made you go for the hot 100?

What made you go for the hot 100?

Reading up on them they seemed to be a really good, cheap, all-rounder. Easy to drive with a small amp but will also handle being plugged into a bigun. Seemed like a good starting point so I got that with a view that it's easy to swap and change if I didn't like it. As it was, I really think it's stonking so I'll not be bothering. I've tried all sorts in the past, I have a Celestion Blue on the end of my old Minimat and that was incredible, but I'm not sure that would have suited the nature of the Blackstar. Before that I had a V30 in a Marshall DSL combo. Again, not sure that would suit the more modern tone of the Blackstar. The Hot100 so far has proved to be a really good jack of all trades.

The stack is really good value with 2 1x10s I would go for that initially and then if you wanted to upgrade to a 1x12 or 2x12  I am sure you would have no problem selling the 1x10s singly to combo owners wanting the second speaker, or to head owners wanting one of the 1x10s for a practive rig - since blackstar don't sell them seperately you may even make the head even cheaper by getting a good price for them here they work out at £75 each (£249 head £399 stack) they could sell for more possibly
