Need help.Lester fever.
« on: May 12, 2009, 08:34:01 AM »
I have this Lester snide. I've had it years, but its languishing under my bed. I've been trying to swap one of my Musicman,s and my Boogies for a real Les Paul, but I'm wondering if I could get that Gibson tone out of my copy. The guitar has a real nice neck, smooth board and frets. The maple top is thick and its seems better built then LP Studios I've seen. Which BKPs will give me the old school Les Paul tone? Or should I just carry on trying to get a Gibson.

well, that looks definitely like a gibson, so i don't think it's your lester, isn't it?
if it's well built and feels good who cares about the gibson logo anyway? buy a set of mules and you'll be happy!
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

Can't see the pics at the moment (at work), but I have agree with dheim - if she's built/looks like a Les Paul, Mules is what I'd choose. I've had them in an Epi LP (it was a bit bright and they didn't sound thick enough for me, but it was "Les Paul"), and in a Tokai Love Rock now (yummy :D).

I've actually forgotten it doesn't say Gibson on it... but I'm more of a Fender man

That's not a Gibson, unless it's been modified - three-screw truss-rod cover and non-US switch!

Looks a quality guitar though, nice plain top and good hardware.  What is it exactly?

I don't see why that shouldn't sound great with a set of Mules (or whatever) in it.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

your eyes are indeed penetrant, my friend... :)
i limited my inspection to the headstock and the gibson logo but of course you're right! anyway it looks really well built.
