Hi, My name is Mike. Apart from the year I just goofed around and never practiced, I've been playing a little over a year.
I spent a while around the Seymour Duncan forums and never really saw anything I liked (although I learned a lot of knowledge from that forum). So I thought I'd give BK a try. This is my setup:
Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier Series 1
4x12 Splawn Cabinet with Red Coats in the X pattern
Boss Tu-2
Monster Performer 500 Cables
As for the guitars the 2 I have currently (well one is on its way)
A Fender Showmaster Scorpion (Carved Basswood Body, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fretboard, 15.75 Radius, Hardtail)
On the way is a Gibson Explorer E/2 (1980, Walnut, Mahogany, and Maple Stripes although there is not a lot of maple in the one I have, body and neck made out of same material, ebony fretboard)
Despite my setup I tend to not like overly bassy stuff, I love the chug I get but really it is more for fun than something I really use a lot, and really I tend to like the more lighter distortions but somehow this is what I ended up getting. I don't regret anything though I love my sound it is me.
In order of tones I like this is my style:
Panic! at the disco =
www.purevolume.com/panicatthediscoThey use Fender Telecasters, and occasionally a Gibson SG, stock as far as I know. Using Orange and Bogner heads.
Coheed and Cambria =
www.purevolume.com/coheedandcambriaRhythm guy uses Emg's into an explorer while the Lead guy uses a stock Les Paul Premium Plus (Burstbucker Pros). Both using Bogner Uberschall but the tones I like more from them are in their Marshall and Mesa Days.
Glassjaw = no purevolume site
They use so many effects it is hard to tell, I think they use Bogner and Hughes and Kettner amps.
I'm not good at describing but if you can listen to these sites or have already heard them that is the type of sound I'm trying to go for. Coheed is more crunchier so I'm thinking a pickup emulating that in the bridge and a pickup emulating Panic at the disco in the neck. I also do most of my clean work in my neck, also the more vintage overdriven sounds.
From what I've read it sounds like I'll like the Nailbomb Bridge and the maybe VhII in the neck. I'd like the neck pickup to be a not harsh rhythm pickup while under distortion so maybe the VHII is not what I'm after. I'm kind of new in the Bareknuckle stuff so any help would be great.
