Amazingly, the vocal and the two resonator tracks were recorded with the Micro BR's internal condensor mic - I couldn't believe it!
+1!!
Yeah, and I'd been setting up a Rode NT1000, pop screen, dbx compressor/gate on the desk insert, the whole shenannigins...
And then, on the Boss BR Community site, I found the majority are using the internal condensor - and getting better results in some cases!!
So I thought I'd give it a go - I'd originally just dismissed it as "duh, won't be using that, I'm a
proper singer...".
The first use was for the guide vocal on this work-in-progress
http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=17507.0, and I thought "hey that's not too bad..." (and that one hasn't been EQ'd or compressed in anyway). I'll probably still use the NT1000 for the real vocals later.
And then this little bass/drums track showed up, I just leaned the MBR against the laptop (which was on,
and logged in here and the Boss Community ) and I played the reso at it and then sang at it...
EDIT: There is a little distortion on the right hand "lead" reso - I was a little too close for that one - but it's hardly noticable in the mix. I think it was the mic distorting, not digital clipping, so it's not that unpleasant - resos tend to do that in my experience - they certainly do it to my NT1000 and my old SM58 if I get too close, they must pack a hell of a punch out the front where the player can't hear it!
